I Will Read at Fairfield's Celebration of National Poetry Month

National Poetry Month was begun in 1996 by the Academy of American Poets.

It is held every April when all people literary celebrate poetry with readings, festivals, and other events that display the significance of poetry.

Local poets will celebrate National Poetry Month with a poetry reading Tuesday, April 13, at the MUM Library at 8:00 PM. Each poet, introduced by local bard Rustin Larson, will read for about ten minutes.

I will read at the celebration and will also be selling signed, inscribed copies of my book, Bare Ruined Choirs, for ten dollars.

Here is a list of poets reading:
  • Joy Lyle
  • Freddy Fonseca
  • Tom Kepler
  • Leah Waller
  • Christine Schrum
  • Susan Klauber
  • Bill Graeser
  • Susie Niedermeyer
  • Carrie Connet
  • Glenn Watt
The goals of National Poetry Month, as developed by the American Academy of Poets, are as follows:
  • Highlight the extraordinary legacy and ongoing achievement of American poets
  • Introduce more Americans to the pleasures of reading poetry
  • Bring poets and poetry to the public in immediate and innovative ways
  • Make poetry a more important part of the school curriculum
  • Increase the attention paid to poetry by national and local media
  • Encourage increased publication, distribution, and sales of poetry books
  • Increase public and private philanthropic support for poets and poetry
I hope you will be able to come to the celebration and enjoy some good poetry.
